Focal adhesion kinase-like 2 (FAK2), also known as Proline-rich tyrosine kinase 2 (Pyk2), is a cytoplasmic non-receptor protein tyrosine kinase closely related to canonical focal adhesion kinase (FAK). It regulates key cellular processes such as proliferation, survival signaling pathways downstream of integrins/growth factors—especially relevant for cell motility—and participates actively at sites where cells interact with their environment via the extracellular matrix. While not essential during embryonic development like its paralogous counterpart (FAK), it remains an important modulator within adult tissue homeostasis and disease states such as cancer progression due to its influence on invasive behavior.
