FOLR1P1 (folate receptor 1 pseudogene 1) is a genomic region classified as a pseudogene. It is similar in sequence to the functional folate receptor genes (such as FOLR1), but does not encode a functional protein, nor does it have biological or pharmacological activity. Pseudogenes can result from gene duplication or retrotransposition events and are generally considered nonfunctional remnants. In the folate receptor family, the canonical active protein is folate receptor 1 (FOLR1, folate receptor alpha), which mediates cellular folate uptake and is a well-characterized therapeutic target, especially in cancer. FOLR1P1 solely refers to the pseudogene and should not be considered a receptor or drug target.
