FOLR1 antisense RNA 1 (FOLR1-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed antisense to the FOLR1 (folate receptor 1) gene[5]. Antisense RNAs, such as FOLR1-AS1, are important in the regulation of gene expression at multiple levels, including transcription, chromatin organization, and mRNA stability[2][5]. FOLR1-AS1, as an antisense transcript, can influence the expression of the sense FOLR1 gene through mechanisms such as transcriptional interference, chromatin modification, and recruitment or blocking of regulatory proteins[2]. In general, antisense RNAs are recognized as epigenetic regulators and may play roles in development and disease, including cancer[2][5]. There are no known drugs directly targeting FOLR1-AS1, and it is not considered a classical drug target such as a receptor or enzyme[5][2]. Within cancer biology, lncRNAs such as FOLR1-AS1 are increasingly recognized for their role in gene expression modulation and may serve as disease biomarkers or points of therapeutic intervention in the future[2][5].
