FOXCUT is a long non-coding RNA located upstream of the FOXC1 gene at chromosome 6p25, often designated as TCONS_00011636 or LINC01379[1][2][4][5]. It is functionally linked to the adjacent FOXC1 transcription factor, with elevated levels of FOXCUT expression correlated to increased expression of FOXC1 protein-coding transcript, cellular proliferation, migration, and overall tumor aggressiveness in multiple cancer types[1][2]. Experimental knockdown of FOXCUT by siRNA inhibits FOXC1 expression and consequently suppresses proliferation and migration of cancer cells. These characteristics highlight FOXCUT as a potential therapeutic target and diagnostic/prognostic biomarker in oncology, particularly basal-like breast cancer and esophageal squamous cell carcinoma[1][2].
