Overview

Forkhead box P4 antisense RNA 1 (FOXP4-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed from the antisense strand of the FOXP4 gene locus. It regulates the expression of the FOXP4 gene and other target genes through various mechanisms, including functioning as a ceRNA that sponges microRNAs and through interaction with chromatin-modifying proteins such as LSD1 and EZH2, leading to regulation of gene transcription and post-transcriptional processes. FOXP4-AS1 is typically upregulated in numerous cancers, including mantle cell lymphoma, endometrial carcinoma, prostate cancer, colorectal cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma, gastric cancer, and osteosarcoma. High expression is broadly associated with poor prognosis by promoting cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and inhibiting apoptosis in tumors. It is considered a potential diagnostic and prognostic biomarker, with ongoing research into its feasibility as a therapeutic target in oncology
