Forkhead box protein B1 (FOXB1) is a sequence-specific DNA-binding transcription factor primarily expressed by neural progenitor cells in specific regions of the embryonic neuroepithelium. It is essential for the maintenance and development of mammillary nuclei in the brain, as well as playing roles in the regulation of oligodendrocyte development. FOXB1 is also expressed in mammary glands, where it regulates lactation and development of the gland. Diseases associated with FOXB1 include certain forms of amelogenesis imperfecta and adult teratoma. There is currently no evidence that FOXB1 is a direct therapeutic target or that it interacts with clinically relevant drugs.
