Overview

Forkhead box protein J1 (FOXJ1) is a member of the Forkhead/winged helix family of transcription factors and is a key regulator of motile ciliogenesis, promoting the expression of genes that mediate the assembly and function of motile cilia. It is widely expressed in ciliated epithelial cells of the lung, reproductive tract, choroid plexus, and during development. FOXJ1 also contributes to immune regulation by suppressing NFκB signaling and influences diverse developmental processes, including left-right body axis determination and organ morphogenesis. Clinically, FOXJ1 is implicated in several diseases involving ciliary dysfunction, autoimmunity, and cancer, and its expression or genetic alteration can serve as a biomarker for disease diagnosis and prognosis[1][2][7][8].
