Formyl Peptide Receptor 2 (FPR2), also known as ALX or ALX/FPR2, is a G-protein coupled receptor (GPCR) that plays a significant role in immune regulation and inflammation. It binds a broad range of ligands, including bacterial formyl peptides, mitochondrial peptides, lipid mediators like lipoxin A4, and certain proteins/peptides. FPR2/ALX can mediate both pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory/pro-resolving effects depending on the ligand. It is expressed on various cell types, including myeloid cells, lymphoid cells, and non-myeloid tissues. Due to its central role in regulating inflammation, FPR2/ALX represents an attractive drug target for novel therapies aimed at modulating chronic inflammatory states or promoting tissue repair/wound healing.
Agonist or antagonist binding to FPR2/ALX modulates downstream signaling pathways, including MAPK/p38, influencing inflammation and resolution.
