FOXD1 antisense RNA 1 (FOXD1-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed from the antisense strand of the FOXD1 gene. It is overexpressed in several cancers, including nasopharyngeal carcinoma and gastric cancer. FOXD1-AS1 promotes tumor cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and glycolysis, suppresses apoptosis, and is associated with aggressive disease and poor patient survival. It exerts its effects by upregulating FOXD1, a transcription factor linked with oncogenic signaling and poor prognosis. In gastric cancer, FOXD1-AS1 promotes chemoresistance by activating the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway. Currently, no clinical drugs target FOXD1-AS1 directly, but its elevated expression serves as a biomarker for unfavorable outcomes and represents a promising, emerging therapeutic target in oncology.
