Overview

FOXG1 antisense RNA 1 (FOXG1-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed from the genomic region antisense to the FOXG1 gene (forkhead box G1) on human chromosome 14q12[3][9]. Like other lncRNAs, FOXG1-AS1 does not encode protein and is thought to act primarily as a regulatory RNA, potentially modulating the expression of the FOXG1 gene through antisense or epigenetic mechanisms. The FOXG1-AS1 locus is annotated in multiple genome databases and is also known as LINC01551[3][9]. While FOXG1 itself is critical for neurodevelopment and acts as a transcription factor with key roles in the formation and function of the cerebral cortex, the precise biological role and mechanism of FOXG1-AS1 remain incompletely defined. There is currently no direct evidence identifying FOXG1-AS1 as a therapeutic target, and no drugs or biomarkers associated with this lncRNA. Its relevance may derive from influencing FOXG1 expression in neurodevelopmental contexts, but it is not itself a canonical drug target in clinical or preclinical therapy development[3][9].
