Free Fatty Acid Receptor 3 (FFAR3)

Target
FFAR3
Molecular classification
G protein-coupled receptor, GPCR, Class A GPCR, Receptor
01

Overview

Free Fatty Acid Receptor 3 (FFAR3), also known as GPR41, is a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) that senses short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) produced by gut microbiota. Activation of FFAR3 primarily couples to Gi proteins, leading to inhibition of adenylate cyclase and reduced cAMP levels. It plays a role in regulating insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells, energy homeostasis, and glucose metabolism, making it a potential therapeutic target for metabolic diseases.
