Target intelligence / Profile preview
Free radical generation leading to cytotoxicity describes a fundamental biological process where overproduction or insufficient removal of highly reactive oxygen/nitrogen species results in molecular damage that can kill cells. This mechanism is exploited therapeutically against cancer but also underlies many forms of pathological tissue injury when unregulated. Cells counteract this threat with robust antioxidant defenses that maintain redox homeostasis under normal conditions.
Induction of oxidative stress leading to cellular damage. Inhibition of DNA/protein synthesis or direct induction of apoptosis/necrosis.
