Overview

Frizzled class receptor 9 (FZD9) is a G protein-coupled receptor that belongs to the frizzled family, characterized by seven transmembrane domains and serving as a receptor for Wnt signaling proteins. FZD9 is predominantly expressed in the brain, testis, eye, skeletal muscle, and kidney, and participates in canonical and non-canonical Wnt signaling, influencing cell proliferation, differentiation, bone formation, and neural development. The FZD9 gene is situated in the Williams syndrome critical region of chromosome 7, and hemizygous deletion is linked to Williams-Beuren syndrome. FZD9 functions by mediating Wnt ligand-induced activation of the beta-catenin pathway, regulating cellular processes essential for tissue development, neurogenesis, and regeneration, as well as contributing to disease mechanisms in several pathological conditions including cancers and developmental disorders.
