Overview

FRMD6 antisense RNA 2 is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed from the antisense strand of the FRMD6 gene locus on chromosome 14[3][7]. It does not encode a protein and is classified as an lncRNA of the antisense subtype. FRMD6-AS2 is associated with a small set of cancers, including malignant struma ovarii and ovarian germ cell teratoma[3]. Recent evidence suggests that FRMD6-AS2 may act as a transcriptional regulator of the protein-coding gene FRMD6, influencing its expression and thus indirectly regulating cellular processes such as cytoskeletal dynamics, cell polarity, and tumor suppressive functions[6]. Its biological and pathological roles are still emerging, but its action is mainly regulatory rather than being a classical protein therapeutic target. There is no currently known pharmacological targeting or established biomarkers relating specifically to FRMD6-AS2. The aliases provided (such as "FRMD6-AS1") reflect alternative annotation conventions for the locus, but FRMD6-AS2 and FRMD6-AS1 may not refer to identical transcripts; they are sometimes grouped in databases[3][7]. It is not a receptor, enzyme, ion channel, transporter, or classical drug target. It is not misspelled or improperly named within the scientific literature. Its relevance in human disease appears related to cancer, but mechanistic and therapeutic significance are still under investigation[6].
