Fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase isozyme 2 (FBP2) is an enzyme that plays a key role in gluconeogenesis by catalyzing the hydrolysis of fructose 1,6-bisphosphate to fructose 6-phosphate. It is highly expressed in muscle tissue and participates mainly in gluconeogenesis and the regulation of glycolysis/gluconeogenesis balance. Recent research has shown that loss or downregulation of FBP2 contributes to cancer cell metabolic reprogramming and may represent a therapeutic target for certain tumors such as soft tissue sarcomas.
Inhibits sarcoma cell proliferation through antagonism of glycolysis and restraint of mitochondrial biogenesis and respiration.
