Overview

Fructose-6-phosphate aldolase (FSA) is a Class I aldolase enzyme, primarily characterized in Escherichia coli, that catalyzes the reversible aldol addition of dihydroxyacetone to various aldehydes [1, 2]. It is distinguished from other aldolases by its ability to accept non-phosphorylated substrates, which has made it a highly valuable tool in biocatalysis and the synthesis of rare sugars and iminocyclitols [3].
