Fucosylated protein biosynthesis refers to the cellular processes by which fucose is incorporated into glycoproteins. This modification affects protein folding, stability, cell signaling, immune recognition, and development. The process involves de novo and salvage pathways for GDP-fucose synthesis, fucosyltransferases (FUTs) and protein O-fucosyltransferases (POFUTs) that catalyze fucose transfer, and nucleotide sugar transporters like SLC35C1. Aberrant fucosylation is implicated in various diseases, including congenital disorders of glycosylation and cancer.
