Fucosyltransferase VI (FUT6) is an enzyme that catalyzes the transfer of fucose from GDP-fucose to specific acceptor molecules on glycoproteins and glycolipids. It is essential for the biosynthesis of selectin ligands such as sialyl-Lewis X (sLe^x), which mediate leukocyte rolling and homing during inflammation. Ex vivo treatment of therapeutic cells with FUT6 can enhance their surface expression of sLe^x, improving their ability to interact with selectins and potentially increasing homing efficiency.
