Fungal cell wall mannoproteins are highly glycosylated proteins that constitute the outermost layer of the fungal cell wall, serving as the primary interface between the fungus and its environment (PMID: 16460230). Mechanism of action

Mannan-binding agents like pradimicins recognize and bind to the mannose residues of mannoproteins in a calcium-dependent manner, leading to the disruption of the fungal cell membrane and cell wall, ultimately causing cell death (PMID: 17174487). Monoclonal antibodies target specific mannoproteins to block adhesion to host tissues or to opsonize the fungal cells for phagocytosis (PMID: 22460961).
