G antigen 12H (GAGE12H)

Target
GAGE12H
Molecular classification
Other (Cancer/testis antigen family; does not fall under receptor, enzyme, transporter, channel, transcription factor, or histone modification)
01

Overview

G antigen 12H (GAGE12H) is a protein encoded by the GAGE12H gene, part of the cancer/testis antigen family. These antigens are selectively expressed in human germ cells (spermatogonia) and in a wide range of human tumors, but not in most normal somatic tissues. The specific function of GAGE12H is not well characterized, but like its family members, it is immunogenic and considered a promising target for cancer immunotherapy. Its expression is considered a biomarker for malignancy and it may participate in processes related to cell survival and immune evasion in cancers.

02

Mechanism of action

For research antibodies: immune-mediated detection. In theoretical immunotherapies: induction of immune response against tumor cells expressing GAGE12H (typical of cancer/testis antigens).

03

Biological functions

Immune responseMay be involved in cellular processes of cell proliferation and survival in germ cells and cancer context (specific function remains unclear beyond immunogenicity)
04

Disease associations

Cancer (expressed in a variety of human tumors)Potential biomarker and target for immunotherapy
05

Safety considerations

Therapeutic targeting may pose risks of autoimmune reactions due to expression in reproductive germ cells (testis); infertility risk may be a challenge if the immune response affects normal germ cells
06

Interacting drugs

No known approved drugs directly interact with GAGE12H. Research tools such as antibodies exist, but there are no reported clinical drugs or small molecules targeting GAGE12H directly.
07

Biomarkers

Expression of GAGE12H itself serves as a biomarker for cancers and as a potential patient selection marker for immunotherapies targeting cancer/testis antigens
