G antigen 13 (GAGE13)

Target
GAGE13
Molecular classification
Cancer/Testis Antigen
01

Overview

G antigen 13 (GAGE13) is a member of the GAGE gene family of cancer/testis antigens, characterized by restricted expression to germ cells of the testis and aberrant activation in a range of human tumors. It is used as a biomarker for cancer diagnosis, prognosis, and as an immunotherapeutic target, particularly in cancer vaccine and T-cell based therapies. Its biological function in normal tissues is not well understood, but in cancer, its presence may facilitate immune evasion or tumorigenicity. Current research prioritizes its value in immuno-oncology, with ongoing efforts to develop therapies that exploit its selective tumor expression.

Mechanism of action

Target for T-cell recognition in cancer immunotherapy; not directly targetable with small molecules or classic biologics, but leveraged in vaccine and T-cell therapy strategies

03

Biological functions

Proposed roles in tumor immune evasionLimited normal expression (primarily testis)Generally unknown function in normal physiology
04

Disease associations

Cancer (notably expressed in various tumor types, especially melanoma, lung cancer, sarcoma, and others)
05

Safety considerations

On-target off-tumor effects possible in testis (infertility risk)Low to no expression in normal somatic tissues minimizes risks of broader immune toxicity
