Overview

G-patch domain and ankyrin repeats 1 (GPANK1) is a protein encoded by the GPANK1 gene located in the human major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class III region on chromosome 6. It features both G-patch and ankyrin repeat domains. GPANK1 is thought to be involved in immunity, likely through nucleic acid binding, but its precise biological functions remain unclear. Multiple alternatively spliced forms exist, all encoding the same protein. No interacting drugs or established roles as a biomarker or therapeutic target are reported. Associations have been described with membranous nephropathy and, more generally, with immune-related genetic regions, but its functional characterization is limited and it is not a known therapeutic receptor, enzyme, transporter, or drug target.
