Mechanism of action

Activation of membrane-bound GPER1 or mERα initiates rapid intracellular signaling cascades, such as Src-mediated EGFR transactivation, which subsequently activates the MAPK/ERK and PI3K/Akt pathways, leading to rapid cellular responses independent of direct gene transcription (Prossnitz & Barton, 2011, Nature Reviews Endocrinology).
