Overview

G protein-coupled receptor 143 Y-linked pseudogene (GPR143YP) is a segment of DNA on the Y chromosome that is homologous to the protein-coding gene *GPR143*, which is crucial for pigmentation and implicated in ocular albinism type 1. GPR143YP does **not encode a functional protein** and therefore is not a molecular target for therapeutic intervention[3]. The functional *GPR143* gene (on the X chromosome) encodes an atypical G protein-coupled receptor involved in intracellular signaling in pigment cells, but the Y-linked pseudogene plays no functional role in physiology, disease, or drug action.
