G-protein Coupled Receptor 44 (GPR44)

Target
GPR44
Molecular classification
G protein-coupled receptor, Receptor
01

Overview

G-protein coupled receptor 44 (GPR44) is a member of the GPCR family, acting as a receptor for prostaglandin D2 (PGD2). It plays a significant role in mediating chemotactic responses, particularly in eosinophils, basophils, and Th2 cells, making it relevant to inflammatory processes like asthma and allergic diseases. GPR44 is also expressed in human pancreatic islets, but not in exocrine pancreas tissue making it a potential biomarker for pancreatic beta cell mass assessment.
