Overview

G protein-coupled receptor 62 (GPR62) is an orphan member of the rhodopsin-like Class A family of G protein-coupled receptors, characterized by seven transmembrane domains and cellular localization to the membrane. Like other GPCRs, GPR62 is presumed to participate in signal transduction across the plasma membrane in response to extracellular cues. Its endogenous ligand, physiological function, and involvement in disease remain uncharacterized, although orphan GPCRs as a class are actively scrutinized for therapeutic potential in neurological and metabolic diseases. GPR62’s sequence and predicted topology align it with broad GPCR molecular and structural features, making it a candidate for future drug discovery and biomedical research.

Biological functions

Signal transductionLikely involved in neural and central nervous system processes (many orphan GPCRs are expressed in the brain, though GPR62's specific function is incompletely characterized)Other (function remains unclear; general GPCR roles include response to extracellular signals and modulation of cellular activity)

Disease associations

Other (No direct disease association currently established; orphan GPCRs are under investigation for roles in neurological and metabolic disorders)
