Overview

G protein-coupled receptor-associated sorting protein 1 (GPRASP1) is a cytoplasmic protein that regulates the lysosomal sorting and degradation of various GPCRs, including the D2 dopamine receptor, delta opioid receptor, beta-2 adrenergic receptor, D4 dopamine receptor, and cannabinoid 1 receptor. GPRASP1 interacts with these receptors following their activation and internalization, promoting their delivery to lysosomes for degradation. This process is important in the modulation of receptor signaling and cellular responsiveness to repeated stimulation. GPRASP1 is encoded by the GPRASP1 gene on chromosome X and is not classified as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter, but as a sorting protein that regulates receptor trafficking and turnover[1][2][3][7][9].
