Overview

G protein-coupled receptor-associated sorting protein 2 (GPRASP2) is a protein that regulates the internalization, trafficking, and degradation of a variety of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), including muscarinic acetylcholine receptors and calcitonin receptors. As a member of the GPRASP family, GPRASP2 influences GPCR activity by directing receptors to lysosomal degradation pathways, thus affecting receptor signaling duration and synaptic plasticity. Loss of GPRASP2 function has been associated with altered synaptic development, memory, social behaviors, and neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism spectrum disorder and X-linked deafness. There is no evidence for its direct use as a therapeutic drug target.
