Overview

G-protein coupled receptor class C group 5 member C (GPRC5C) is a type 3 G protein-coupled receptor characterized by a signature 7-transmembrane domain motif and a short N-terminal domain. Its gene is retinoic acid-inducible. While its precise physiological ligand and function remain unknown, it may mediate retinoic acid effects on G protein signal transduction and appears to play a role in cell signaling, particularly in osteoblast differentiation and bone-related pathways, and possibly in cancers and cystinuria. It is expressed in several peripheral tissues as well as the brain, and evidence suggests that it may interact with hyaluronic acid or saccharides. Current research considers it an orphan receptor with therapeutic potential for bone and cancer disorders, though no drugs targeting GPRC5C are established yet[1][3][5][7][8].
