Overview

G protein pathway suppressor 2 pseudogene 2 (GPS2P2) is a non-coding pseudogene related to the protein-coding GPS2 gene. It retains high sequence similarity to GPS2, but does not produce a functional protein or have validated direct biological function. Recent computational models suggest pseudogenes like GPS2P2 may play regulatory roles, such as acting as microRNA decoys or modulating parental gene expression in ceRNA networks, by sharing sequences and regulatory elements. However, GPS2P2 itself is not recognized as a therapeutic target, biomarker, or drug-interacting entity. The protein-coding gene GPS2, in contrast, is involved in cancer, inflammation, and metabolic regulation, but these properties do not directly extend to GPS2P2 based on current biological data and annotation.[3][1][4]

Biological functions

Other (Pseudogenes do not have known canonical protein functions, but some act as microRNA decoys or regulate expression of parental genes through competing endogenous RNA [ceRNA] activity[1]. GPS2P2 may share these properties by sequence similarity but has no experimentally validated functions.)
03

Disease associations

Other (No direct disease association for GPS2P2 is documented. However, parental gene GPS2 is implicated as a tumor suppressor in cancers and in metabolic disorders[4]. Some pseudogenes modulate disease via regulatory effects, but no such role is established for GPS2P2[1].)
