G protein subunit gamma 5 (GNG5) is a component of heterotrimeric G proteins, which also include alpha and beta subunits. These membrane-associated proteins regulate the flow of information from G protein-coupled cell surface receptors to various intracellular effectors. The beta and gamma subunits form a functional complex required for GTPase activity, exchange of GDP for GTP on the alpha subunit, and interaction with downstream effectors. GNG5 is one of several gamma subunit isoforms and contributes to a range of signal transduction pathways, prominently regulating diverse cellular responses following receptor activation[1][2][3][4][5][6].
