G protein subunit gamma 5 pseudogene 1 (GNG5P1) is a processed pseudogene located in the human genome and is related by sequence to the functional G protein subunit gamma 5 (GNG5)[5]. Unlike GNG5, which encodes a gamma subunit of the heterotrimeric G protein complex involved in transmembrane signal transduction, GNG5P1 does not produce a functional protein and is not implicated in signaling, disease, or drug action[5]. Pseudogenes like GNG5P1 are considered genomic relics with no direct physiologic or therapeutic relevance. If the intended target is the *active* G protein subunit gamma 5 (GNG5), structured information would be substantially different, as that protein is involved in signaling pathways and has links to cardiovascular and neurological conditions[3][9][10]. For GNG5P1, however, there is no known therapeutic, functional, or disease relevance[5].
