GABPA is a transcription factor involved in the regulation of genes essential for mitochondrial respiration and neuromuscular signaling. It forms part of the GABP complex, which is critical for the expression of genes necessary for mitochondrial biogenesis and function. GABPA is also known as nuclear respiratory factor 2 subunit alpha and plays a role in the activation of cytochrome c oxidase genes.
