Overview

GABA type A receptor-associated protein-like 3 is a member of the GABARAP/Atg8 protein family, related to autophagy regulatory proteins and intracellular membrane trafficking factors[2][4][6]. Like its relatives, GABARAPL3 contains a ubiquitin-like domain and is predicted to enable binding to GABA receptors, phosphatidylethanolamine, and ubiquitin protein ligases[4][6]. It is primarily involved in the process of autophagosome formation, cargo sequestration, and possibly the trafficking of membrane proteins such as neurotransmitter receptors. Its biological functions are largely inferred from homology with better-studied family members, specifically GABARAP and GABARAPL1, which participate in autophagy and in stabilizing and trafficking GABA type A receptors at neuronal synapses.
