Overview

GABPA pseudogene (GABPAP), sometimes referred to as E4TF1B, is a noncoding DNA sequence in humans related to the GA-binding protein transcription factor alpha subunit (GABPA/E4TF1). Unlike its parent gene, it does not produce a functional protein and is classified as a pseudogene. Pseudogenes can play roles in gene regulation, potentially acting as decoys for regulatory RNAs, but most have no direct biological activity. As such, GABPAP is not a therapeutic target and is frequently misinterpreted in genomic analyses, especially during high-throughput sequencing, due to its high homology with its parental gene.
