GABRG3 antisense RNA 1 (GABRG3-AS1) is a primate-specific long non-coding RNA gene located on chromosome 15q12. It is transcribed antisense to the GABRG3 gene, which codes for the gamma3 subunit of the GABA-A receptor. While GABRG3 itself plays a critical role in inhibitory neurotransmission and has clear implications in neurological disorders, GABRG3-AS1 remains a transcript of unknown function. It is not a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or recognized therapeutic target. Most large databases list GABRG3-AS1 as an antisense non-coding RNA gene, with no established connection to regulated pathways, disease, or clinical biomarkers. Its primary scientific relevance is its locus and antisense relationship to a druggable protein (GABRG3), but further research is needed to clarify any physiological or pathological roles for GABRG3-AS1.
