Target intelligence / Profile preview
The Gag polyprotein is a precursor protein crucial for HIV-1 virion assembly and maturation. It contains multiple domains, including the p24 capsid protein (CA), which forms the conical core of the virion. p24 is essential for maintaining viral structural integrity and packaging the viral genome. Detection of p24 is used for early diagnosis of HIV infection, and mutations within Gag, including p24, can lead to drug resistance.
p24 is a structural protein essential for the formation of the viral capsid, protecting the viral genome and enabling viral entry into host cells. Disrupting its assembly or function prevents viral replication.
