Galectin-3-binding protein is a secreted beta-galactoside-binding glycoprotein encoded by the LGALS3BP gene on chromosome 17q25. It binds to galectin-3 (Mac-2) and galectin-1, modulating cell–cell and cell–extracellular matrix interactions. LGALS3BP is strongly implicated in immune regulation, especially in the activity of natural killer (NK) and lymphokine-activated killer (LAK) cells, and promotes integrin-mediated cell adhesion. Clinically, elevated LGALS3BP levels are found in the sera of cancer and HIV patients, and it serves as a recognized tumor-associated antigen and biomarker. There is evidence of additional roles in neural development and cell trafficking. Its broad tissue expression and involvement in diverse pathways support both its therapeutic and diagnostic relevance[1][2][3][4][5].
Drugs and antibodies targeting LGALS3BP generally act via: immune modulation (enhancing anticancer immune response or regulating inflammation), suppression of tumor growth/metastasis (blocking cell adhesion or galectin-mediated interactions), inhibition of cell–cell and cell–matrix communication.
