Galectin-9B (LGALS9B)

Target
LGALS9B
Molecular classification
Other (putative carbohydrate-binding protein/lectin, unvalidated; not a recognized family member with well-defined functional activity[3][4])

Overview

Galectin-9B (LGALS9B) is a predicted protein-coding gene originally annotated as a pseudogene similar to galectin-9, located on human chromosome 17p. It features a typical galectin-like exon-intron structure and sequence similarity to galectin-9, encoding a predicted protein able to bind galactosides. However, functional evidence for LGALS9B as a distinct protein entity in human biology is lacking. It is not currently recognized as a validated molecular target, receptor, or therapeutic entity. Most of the known immunological and biological functions assigned to “galectin-9” in the scientific literature refer to the LGALS9 gene, not LGALS9B. In summary, "Galectin-9B" (LGALS9B) is not a recognized molecular target, receptor, or therapeutic entity. Most available evidence suggests this is either an uncharacterized protein or a pseudogene, with no current functional or disease association established in the literature.
