Galectin 9D, pseudogene (LGALS9DP), is a human genomic locus classified as a pseudogene, meaning it does not encode a functional protein product. It is part of the galectin gene family, which otherwise comprises carbohydrate-binding proteins involved in diverse biological functions such as immune regulation and cancer progression. Unlike its functional relatives (e.g., galectin-9, LGALS9), LGALS9DP harbors disabling mutations and/or sequence truncations that render it nonfunctional. It is not considered a drug target, has no known biological function, is not used clinically, and is typically disregarded in therapeutic research. LGALS9DP should not be confused with LGALS9 (galectin-9), a true protein-coding gene and a well-established immune checkpoint protein relevant in oncology and immunology. LGALS9DP is non-coding and not a legitimate molecular target.
