The GALNT7 divergent transcript (GALNT7-DT) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) gene that is classified as a divergent transcript due to its close genomic proximity and transcription on the opposite strand of the GALNT7 protein-coding gene. LncRNAs such as GALNT7-DT do not code for a protein and generally function through RNA-mediated regulatory mechanisms, which may include regulating the expression of adjacent protein-coding genes. Currently, there is no evidence that GALNT7-DT acts as a therapeutic target, nor is there information regarding its direct function, involvement in disease, or actionable pharmacology[1][3][5][6]. Note: Most research and annotation concerns the protein-coding gene GALNT7 (polypeptide N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase 7), which is a glycosyltransferase enzyme and may be a biomarker or have disease associations[2], but GALNT7-DT is a distinct non-coding transcript and not a protein/receptor target[1][3][6].
