Galyfilcon A is a silicone hydrogel polymer used as the base material for Acuvue Advance contact lenses, developed by Johnson & Johnson Vision Care. While Galyfilcon A is not a biological target like a receptor or enzyme, its surface properties are critical for its interaction with the tear film and the ocular microbiota. Over time, the surface may accumulate proteins and lipids, which can lead to inflammatory responses or reduced comfort, and the material has largely been superseded by newer generations of silicone hydrogels like Senofilcon A.
