Target intelligence / Profile preview
Pfs230 is a large, multi-domain protein expressed on the surface of gametocytes and gametes of *Plasmodium falciparum*. It is essential for sexual reproduction within the mosquito vector and is a leading target for transmission-blocking vaccines (TBVs). Antibodies against Pfs230 can block parasite development inside mosquitoes, preventing further transmission to humans. It forms a membrane-bound complex with Pfs48/45.
