Overview

Gametogenetin-binding protein 2 (GGNBP2) is a zinc finger protein mainly implicated in the regulation of chromatin structure and histone modifications, particularly in the context of spermatogenesis[1][2][3]. It functions as a scaffold protein, interacting with partners such as ASXL1 and UBE2B, and plays a critical role in histone H2A and H2B ubiquitination and H3 methylation, impacting nucleosome stability and DNA repair[1]. GGNBP2 acts as a tumor suppressor in certain cancers and has essential functions in testis morphogenesis, sperm development, and pregnancy maintenance[2]. Alterations or knockout of GGNBP2 lead to male infertility (azoospermia), abnormal spermatogenesis, and, in some contexts, contribute to tumor biology and developmental defects[1][2][3]. GGNBP2 is associated with chromosome 17q12 deletion syndrome and may regulate negative cell proliferation and differentiation processes[2][3]. Currently, there are no known therapeutic drugs targeting GGNBP2 directly, and it is not established as a classic druggable therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter.
