Gamma-aminobutyric acid type B receptor subunit 2 (GABBR2)

Target
GABBR2
Molecular classification
G protein-coupled receptor, GPCR, Receptor
01

Overview

Gamma-aminobutyric acid type B receptor subunit 2 (GABBR2) is a protein that forms part of the GABA_B receptor, a member of the class C family of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs). The functional GABA_B receptor is an obligate heterodimer composed of GABBR1 and GABBR2. GABBR2 does not bind agonists directly but is essential for coupling ligand binding to downstream intracellular signaling pathways via interaction with guanine nucleotide-binding proteins (G-proteins). It mediates inhibitory neurotransmission in the central nervous system.

Mechanism of action

Forms obligate heterodimer with GABBR1; GABBR2 mediates coupling to G proteins and downstream signaling, including potassium channel activation, inhibition of adenylyl cyclase, and inhibition of calcium channels.
