Gamma delta T cells (γδ T cells) are a distinct subset of T lymphocytes characterized by the expression of a unique T-cell receptor (TCR) composed of one gamma (γ) and one delta (δ) chain. They bridge innate and adaptive immunity, responding rapidly to stress signals or pathogens without requiring antigen processing or MHC presentation. They play roles in immune surveillance, inflammation, tissue homeostasis, infection response, tumor immunity, and wound healing. Their ability to kill infected or transformed cells without prior sensitization makes them promising candidates for cancer immunotherapy.
Cytotoxicity via release of perforin and granzymes, antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity, cytokine production (IFN-gamma, TNF-alpha, IL‑17A/F/22/21/4/GM-CSF), apoptosis induction in target cells.
