Gamma delta (γδ) T cell activation refers to the process by which γδ T cells become functionally active in response to specific stimuli. Unlike conventional αβ T cells, γδ T cells recognize antigens in a manner that is largely independent of MHC molecules. Activation can be triggered by TCR-dependent mechanisms, NK receptor-mediated pathways, and co-stimulatory signals. Activated γδ T cells exhibit several effector functions, including cytotoxicity, cytokine production, and antigen presentation. They play a role in early defense against infections and tumor surveillance.
