Overview

Gamma-glutamylamine cyclotransferase (GGACT) is an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of gamma-glutamylamines—specifically gamma-glutamyl-epsilon-lysine, which results from the breakdown of proteins cross-linked by transglutaminases—into free amines and 5-oxoproline. The enzyme contributes to the degradation of cross-linked proteins by breaking the isopeptide bond between lysine and glutamic acid residues. GGACT adopts a cyclotransferase fold similar to gamma-glutamylcyclotransferase (GGCT), but with substrate specificity for gamma-glutamylamines rather than gamma-glutamyl-alpha-amino acids
