Overview

Gamma-glutamyltransferase 2, pseudogene (GGT2P) is a human pseudogene that appears to be a duplication of the gamma-glutamyltransferase 1 (GGT1) gene. Although GGT2P and GGT1 can potentially encode highly similar proteins, GGT2P lacks the ability to undergo necessary autocatalytic cleavage, resulting in the lack of a mature, enzymatically active protein. As a pseudogene, GGT2P is expressed at much lower levels than GGT1 and does not produce a functional enzyme. It is not considered a therapeutic target and has no established role in biological function, disease association, drug interaction, biomarker utility, or safety concerns
