It is located in a gene segment on chromosome 13 alongside FAM230C and LOC101060145 and does not encode a functional protein product. The establishment of GGT4P is linked to chromosomal segmental duplications and the broader evolution of non-coding RNA genes and other GGT-derived pseudogenes. Unlike active members of the GGT family (e.g., GGT1, GGT5), GGT4P does not have known enzymatic activity, biological function, or disease relevance[1].
